Standing on the field in the RCA Dome, surrounded by expectant fans and fellow players, with the National Anthem ringing in the forefront of his mind, rookie defensive back Jason Belser began to tear up. He realized all of the determination and hard work had paid off: he was finally playing in the NFL.
Belser brings this love and commitment to the game with him as he joins the Benjamin community as its newest head football coach. With his extensive experience from peewee to pros, Coach Belser promises to build upon the program’s history of success.
A Kansas City native, Belser not only played high school football but college and pro as well. After completing his college career at Oklahoma, Belser was in the 1992 NFL Draft. He went on to play eleven seasons in the NFL.

Coach Belser explains his decades-long experience in the football world, “I’m a legacy NFL player. My father was on the first Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl team. I played 11 years on the Colts & Chiefs. I’ve coached at pee-wee, middle school, high school, and NFL.”
This lifetime experience paid off for Belser as he competed for the position of Head Coach. Although the interviewing process was difficult, Belser appeared to be the best fit for the job.
Athletic Director Mr. Ryan Smith explains what the process to find a coach was like, “Coach Belser was chosen among 230 applicants from across the country for the Head Varsity Football Coach position. This demonstrates that The Benjamin School is held in very high regard throughout the county. We narrowed the group to a few finalists who were all very qualified for the position. Jason Belser was offered the position, and accepted.”
Belser’s football knowledge was not the only reason he was selected for this head coaching position. His personal values and ideals appeared to align perfectly with those of The Benjamin School.
“He brings a vision and culture that aligns with The Benjamin School Values. We are thrilled to welcome Coach Belser to The Benjamin School community,” shared Mr. Smith. “His connections through his experiences in college and professional football are vast, this will give our school, athletic department, and student-athletes many opportunities.”
Now that Coach Belser has the position, he has many plans for Benjamin’s football program. He hopes to make improvements and personalize the team to fit his coaching style.
“I am planning & preparing to build a program that players want to join and create & establish championship culture and relationships. The Bucs will be recognized & supported by the community,” said Belser.
Since earning the position as Head Coach, Belser has begun to build relationships with his new players and school. It seems as though he has left a positive and lasting first impression.
Junior Charlie Smith, a member of the football team, shares his thoughts on this new leader, “Coach Belser is not just great for the football team but he is also a great addition to the Benjamin community.”
Welcome to Benjamin, Coach.
