Imagine a restaurant that feels lively the moment you walk in, yet never rushed once you sit down. That place is Clay Conely’s Grato in West Palm Beach.
I went to Grato for dinner with friends on a Friday night, and the experience was absolutely incredible. While Conley’s Palm Beach two other restaurants– Buccan and Imoto–lean into a more upscale culinary experience, Grato brings the same level of quality to a setting that is both comfortable and inviting.
We started with an appetizer of tuna tartar, which is served on crispy rice with avocado, spicy aioli, and cilantro. The contrast between the warm crunch of the rice and the cool tuna made each bite stand out, and the flavor blended beautifully. Alongside it, we shared the Italian salad, a simple combination of olives, pepperoncini, onions, chickpeas, croutons, and parmesan cheese. The bright, acidic dressing and fresh ingredients made it surprisingly memorable and a perfect starter to share.

For my entrée, I ordered the spaghetti pomodoro. All of Grato’s pastas are made in-house, which definitely sets it apart from most home meals. The pasta had the ideal al dente mixture, and the sauce was bright, smooth, and layered with basil and parmesan. It was a simple dish, but Grato prepared it with a level of care that made it absolutely delicious.
My friends, on the other hand, ordered the chicken parmesan, and it was equally impressive. Their chicken had a crisp, golden crust that remained crunchy under melted mozzarella, while its inside stayed perfectly tender. Paired with marinara and spaghetti, it was the kind of classic Italian comfort dish that Grato executed with real finesse.
One of my favorite aspects about the restaurant is the variety of dishes found on its menu. Although rooted in Italian cooking, the menu rotates seasonally and includes seafood appetizers, vegetable dishes, house-made pastas, pizzas, and steaks. The seasonal changes also mean that if one particular menu is not exactly your style, it is always worth returning; there is almost always something new to try!
Additionally, as someone with a nut allergy, I truly appreciated how seriously the staff took my concerns. They explained the menu clearly, guided me toward safe options, and made thoughtful substitutions without hesitation. Their attention to detail made the entire experience comfortable and stress free, something I never take for granted when dining out.
With consistently good food, a welcoming atmosphere, and impeccable service, it’s clear why Grato continues to be a stand out in the West Palm Beach dining scene. Whether you are craving handmade pasta, a well-executed classic, or simply a restaurant that gets the details right, Grato is absolutely worth the visit!
