Just as the second semester approaches, so does Benjamin School’s annual Variety Show. This year is the Variety Show’s 30th anniversary, so it will focus on remembering the past and looking towards the present of the event. The show will take place on January 24 in Benjamin Hall.
Each year, the Variety Show has a theme that outlines all of the per- formances and pieces. The theme this year is extremely unique.
“This year’s theme is called “The Best is Yet to Come.” We are celebrating the Variety Show’s 30th anniversary this January, and the theme reflects that there is still so much more to celebrate in the coming years. We will be showcasing some of our favorite pieces from past variety shows, as well as including new pieces this year. We have invited alumni from the very first variety show, so there will be a lot of alumni featured in this show,” shared Mrs. Sara Salivar, Performing Arts Department Chair.
Each year, the Variety Show features a multitude of musical performances. The 2026 Variety Show will feature a few past numbers from previous shows as well as lots of new ones.
Mrs. Salivar explains what the audiences have to look forward to this year, “There will be more vocal pieces this year, including father/ daughter duo Erika Strasser ‘09 and her dad, Lee Strasser. We have more big numbers, including a medley from “Beauty and the Beast,” “Despicable Me,” and “Hamilton.” Along with the Diamondettes, Dazzlers, and Sparklers, we even have a boy/girl country piece this year that is sure to entertain, and an appearance
from the “Blues Brothers” daddy/ daughters. There will be lots of fun musical numbers from the Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School, including the Middle School drumline and the Upper School concert band, plus we might even have an administrator participate this year.”
As always, the Dazzlers will be a highlight of the Variety Show this year. They have been preparing various dances that will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the event.
“The Dazzlers are doing some of the most popular dances the team has done in the past, as well as some new pieces,” stated senior Bridget Stein. “We are doing ‘Devil Went Down to Georgia,’ ‘Our Favorite Son,’ ‘The Best Is Yet to Come,’ ‘It’s About That Walk,’ ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters,’ as well as dancing in the opening ‘Beau- ty and the Beast’ number.”
The preparations for the Variety Show are completely underway now, as performers and organizers alike are beyond excited to share all of their hard work with their Benjamin community.
“It is going to be such a fun variety show, and I hope everyone will come out and support the Arts at TBS,” shared Mrs. Salivar.
Bridget Stein had similar remarks, “I’m excited for the Variety Show because being backstage with my friends is always super fun and it’s always super rewarding in the end.”
The Variety Show is sure to be a wonderful performance this year as the Performing Arts Department celebrates nearly half a century of the event. Be sure to buy your tickets and celebrate all of the hard work of those involved.
