HOBUS; RJ Pierman, Class of 2026
Class of 26, RJ Pierman plays the saxophone in the underclassmen solo ensemble.
I have been in the band since 4th grade and I taught myself almost ten instruments: alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, soprano saxophone, drum sets, percussion guitar, banjo, bagpipes, French horn, and piano.

For drums, I’ve been playing since I can walk. My dad was a drummer so he taught me and I grew up with it. I got my first drum set when I was about three years old. He and I would practice it and he would teach me rhythms and other things. I learned percussion through school, but I had piano lessons outside of school. I had lessons every five weeks or so. Saxophone I pretty much taught myself and my aunt used to play saxophone, so she gave me her alto saxophone. I used the book from school that we were using to teach myself. I expressed interest in it, so I learned each one because they are all different in some way, shape, or form. I did trial and error mostly for it.
I am teaching myself the french horn right now because Mrs.Austin told me to learn it for one song. I got a note chart and how to play each note and it is a lot of trial and error but it is the only way I know how to.
